Atamans work is pretty impressive and you can definitely tell that the work he produces really has a deep meaning to him. When reading about Women who wear wigs I thought the women he chose to expose was interesting (i.e. a chemotherapy patient to a prostitute). I really enjoyed the section were Ataman is compared to Freud and his ideas on personality and forgotten material, because Atamans work describes ones identity and challenges if it is of the “true self”. I really appreciated Testimony (2006) because he attempted to preserve the woman who was senile with images to resuscitate her memory. Here he also refers to himself and the Freudian other because he is trying to bring the submerged past back to light. Something that inspired me and that I really liked was how in most of his pieces he focuses on “imitating that if our obsessions trap us physically or emotionally, they frequently liberate us imaginatively”. His work really inspires me to dig a little deeper and figure out what makes up my identity, Atamans work makes you realize that whether it’s good or bad it is all part of my true self.
